Expansion Project Update 21-04-2017
Whilst the children and staff were enjoying a lovely Easter break, the builders were hard at work to move the project into its final phase and closer towards completion at the end of this term.
The picture below right shows the Year 2 classrooms with the partition wall between them demolished to create one, large space for the new Studio Hall.
Having a second hall will provide many benefits for the school: a second room for PE, dance, drama and music; more opportunities for before and after school clubs; more flexible timings for assemblies and productions; more space at lunchtime and much more.
The picture below left shows Class 5B, one of the rooms that have been adjusted to create a first-floor link corridor between the existing building and the new wing. The children are pleased to be back in their fully, refurbished room after their short adventure in Year 2! The work in Class 4B to create the ground-floor link corridor, was completed over the Easter break without the class having to move at all!
Expansion Project Update 17-03-2017
This week we have been showing round companies that supply schools with multi-use games areas (MUGAs) and additional playground facilities. This is something that we are aiming to build when the expansion project is finished in the summer. We would like to develop the space at the bottom of the school field, using an area that is boggy and unusable for most of the year. This would provide extra space for playtimes and lunchtimes, as well as an additional pitch for games lessons. FOMPs are planning to help us with the cost of this and proceeds from fundraising events for the rest of the year will go into the MUGA pot (Circus, Moulton Festival, Danceathon).
Expansion Project Update 10-03-2017
The expansion programme is going well and is due to finish by the end of the summer term as scheduled. The classrooms in the new wing will be completed mid-June, giving us time to move in the new furniture and get all set up, ready for the new school year in September.
The groundwork is the last part of the project and will take us to mid-July. This involves extending the playground and school field, and returning the site to its former state, including reinstating the pond and wildlife garden and removing the access road. Once the work is complete, we are looking forward to developing the outdoor area further to provide more play and sports opportunities for the children.
Expansion Project Update 10-02-2017
This week we had our first official viewing of the inside of the new extension and were very impressed with how quickly the building is taking shape. We were able to see just how spacious the new classrooms will be and how well the arrangement of three classrooms on each floor will work as year group ‘bases’. The next phase which starts after half-term, will be to create the ‘corridors’ inside the school that link the two buildings together.
Expansion Project Update 10-01-2017
We have moved on a long way since the last update. The roof is now on and almost complete, the steel framed walling is again almost complete and work has started on erecting the internal partition walls
This week the builders will be starting the external walls and over the next few weeks expect to see the main envelope of the building in place. Once completely water tight the internal plaster boarding will commence. The electrician and plumber are on site getting ready for wiring and piping.
The next major works will begin at Easter time when the corridors will be put in place to link the old building to the new one.
Expansion Project Update 30-09-2016
This week the staffroom and new group room have been completed and work is progressing well on the steel frame for the new extension. This is being constructed with the help of an enormous crane which the children say is visible from different parts of the village!
Children in Year 4 and Year 5 have the best views from their classrooms. Ashton and Amelia in 4A said: “It’s sometimes a bit noisy but it’s also very exciting!”
Expansion Project Update 16-09-2016
The builders are currently busy working on the new staffroom (old Media Centre) and Music Room (old staffroom) which should be finished in a few weeks. They have finished our new Meeting Room which is next to the new Reception classroom, and we have wasted no time in making use of it!
Expansion Project Update 09-09-2016
The foundations are almost complete and the next step is to begin erecting the steel frame which should start in the next week or so. This will involve the arrival of a large crane to lift the steel into position which will be very exciting for the children to watch!
Expansion Project Update 17-06-2016
The Project Team met last week to agree the phasing plan for the building work. This means deciding when key parts of the work will be carried out. Jeakins Weir, the contractors, are very keen to work with the school to ensure that any disruption is kept to a minimum. This includes making good use of school holidays to tackle the trickier areas.
Expansion Project Update 20-05-2016
We met this week with NCC and the architects to agree the interior design schemes for the new build. This included choosing carpets for the classrooms in the new wing and picking the colour schemes for the toilets on each of the three floors. It will be lovely for the Y3, Y4 and Y5 children that eventually live in the new wing to each have their own set of toilets.
Expansion Project Update 13-05-2016
We had the ‘Pre-start’ meeting this week with the architects, Northampton County Council and the contractors Jeakins Weir. We were pleased to find out that Jeakins have extensive experience with school projects and they are currently working at Roade Primary School.
